Leah Beiler is the local schoolteacher for the local Amish district where she lives. She loves the simple life, loves teaching the children each year, but is harboring a broken heart. She was going to marry Johnny Kile, but he wanted more and he lived in the outside world, as an Englisher. Leah meets Daniel Glick, a newcomer to her world. He has three children she will be teaching, and Abby has a small hope maybe they could become more than just teacher and parent.
Daniel Glick has his own demons from his past. All he wants to do is take care of his children and tend to his farm. Even when he meets Leah and sees how patient she is with the children including his, he is determined not to let the past repeat itself. When Johnny returns asking for Leah's forgiveness and the possibility of a reconciliation, Daniel realizes he may lose his chance for happiness.
Leah has to make a choice; return to the man who broke her heart and now wants a second chance, or pick the man who has secrets from his past which will not allow him to open up to her. Either way she decides will impact her life forever.
I adore reading books about the Amish. Their lifestyle is not complicated, they live their lives every day according to the Bible. They help one another, do not brag about themselves, as it appears vain, and do not take anything for granted.
