Galiana has the responsibility of watching her twin brothers and holding down the household while her parents are gone. She relishes this opportunity to prove she is more than just a pretty face. Things quickly take a turn for the worse. What starts out as a harmless snowball fight turns into Montehue Manor being taken over by strange knights, her brother being injured and then locked away, plus she is being coerced into marrying the leader. How did things go bad so fast?
Before he has an opportunity to see his assailant, a well-aimed blow to Rourke Wallisí head renders him blind. Galiana merely wished to keep her brother safe. She never intended to blind the man. Now she is charged with tending to the handsome knight who has invaded her family home. When Galiana wished for an adventure she had no idea what lie in wait for her.
Rourke walks a fine line between loyalty and treason. The Breath of Merlin was recently stolen from Scotland King Williamís treasury. Rourke is given the task to find it and return it. The plan is for Rourke to swear fealty to Prince John so he can search for what belongs to Scotland. But Prince John throws a wrench in the plans. He sends his knights out to marry into families with considerable incomes in order to stop possible enemies. Prince Johnís attempt to steal the crown has England torn between two brothers. For his part, Rourke is sent to Montehue Manor to wed Galiana. Galiana has a special dispensation from King Richard himself that releases her from marrying against her will. But Rourke has too much at stake to let anything stand in his way.
During the course of his stay at Montehue Manor, Rourke begins to fall for the woman with the gentle touch. As for Galiana, she is able to form a relationship with a man not based on her ethereal beauty. Rourke cannot see her, but he knows she has a beautiful spirit. He begins to trust Galiana and confides in her that he is a spy for King William. With her assistance, Rourke continues his search for the magical stone, the Breath of Merlin.
Beautyís Curse is the second book in the Boadicea series by Traci E. Hall. This sequel to Loveís Magic is a well-written story filled with interesting characters, intrigue, and romance. Set during a treacherous time in Englandís history, the author will keep you guessing about the mystery while enchanting you as Galiana finds her own magic.
Beautyís Curse can be read alone, but I recommend reading the first book to complete the magical experience.
