The effects of the last magic flare continue to plague Atlanta in the third book of the Magic series. When Kate Daniels' friend Derek is found badly beaten she is shocked. It takes something really powerful to take down a shapeshifter of his skill. He may not even survive the magical healing necessary to save him.
She may find her answers at the Midnight Games, an unsanctioned fighting tournament featuring magical warriors. But first, she has to get in. Curran has banned all his shapeshifters from the games, and she needs their help. Who will go against his command? How can she gain entry into the invitation-only event?
Magic Strikes is the best book of the series to date. The groundwork has been laid and most of the major characters fleshed out. This is where it all comes together. Readers are now emotionally invested in the characters, which adds to the tension and excitement. Several subplots continue on, including the “courtship” between Kate and Curran. I wonder if they will ever get together? Only the author knows for sure.
