As the RED team inches ever closer to the mastermind behind the human trafficking ring, Alexis Steele and Nick Donovan have more personal matters on their minds. Lexi is feeling strangely vulnerable after baring her soul and checkered past to Nick, and wishes he would trust her with his own secrets. As if that wasn't enough to think about, her mother's health is also causing some sleepless nights. Will she be able to set her personal turmoil aside for the mission?

Nick, trying to concentrate on the latest mission, is worried that Lexi means more to him than any other woman. He knows he is not worthy of her affection, and that she won't feel the same about him if he talks about his past. He is thinking short-term and plans to move back to Arizona with his sister as soon as they catch the scumbag who has been selling girls as sex slaves.

The Second Betrayal is another winning book in the Lexi Steele series. The action is gritty and raw, with some very unpleasant characters and harsh situations. Author Cheyenne McCray does not pull any punches in her realistic portrayal of this heinous black market. Knowing that her story could be played out in any major city only adds to the horror. She has delivered with strong characters and a fast-paced plot that takes readers along for the ride. I am very interested to see what direction the team will take next.
