Sarah McKinley's dream of opening a bed and breakfast seems to be turning into a nightmare after numerous skeletons are discovered in the walls of the old house during renovations. The home was a mortuary at one time. Could the skeletons be the result of greed and coffin re-selling or something more sinister?
Modern day missing persons cases bring PI Caleb Anderson into Sarah's home and life. They both embark on research that hints that history may be repeating itself in St. Augustine when it comes to the disappearance of young women. Is there a spirit from the past seeking blood sacrifices or have modern criminals gotten hold of a Civil War era book and used it for new evil. Will her quest put Sarah at risk?
Sarah and Caleb are strong, intelligent characters and their attraction and romance add extra emotional depth to the plot of this latest novel by Ms. Graham. As with many of her recent books, there is a paranormal element, but she really kicks up the creepy quotient in Unhallowed Ground . Among her many talents as a writer, Ms. Graham always brings the settings of her tales to the forefront. I have not visited St. Augustine in years, but I felt as though I was right in the midst of its rich history as I turned the pages of this book.
Heather Graham has garnered a legion of fans over the years and I have truly become one of them. Her novels have become "must reads" for me.
