Aketa is a mute farm girl, raised outside the confines of the Great City. She knows nothing of city life and prefers the simplicity of the country and her land. However, when a proclamation is issued that Lord Moregon is searching for a wife and all the eligible females of the land are to attend a ball in his honor, Aketa finds herself thrust into an unfamiliar world. With her scarred body she doesn’t believe she has the ability to win his love.
But to live in Moregon’s world, Aketa will need more than beauty. She will need the strength and spirit to withstand and wield whips and chains, for to love Moregon is to endure aspects of BDSM. And Aketa will do anything to win the man she loves,
Bound is book three in the Zinahs series. Despite never having read the previous novels in the series, I was immediately hooked into the fantastical world Ms. Dubois creates. There was no confusion about previous events or characters, and the author even provides a useful glossary at the back of the book with introductions of key figures. The lead characters – Moregon and Aketa – are fascinating. Each one is scarred in their own way and it is true love that provides the healing balm.
Ms. Dubois mixes an enticing blend of Dominance and submission into her storyline of Moregon’s search for a wife. Usually the Alpha male proves to be the Dominant, the woman provides submission. It was refreshing to read a story that involved a male hero as a switch, as someone who craves the pain and pleasure of submission without appearing weak.
The sex scenes are undeniably sizzling and include spanking, bondage, caning, clamps and a few other BDSM practices. If BDSM is not to your taste, I wouldn’t recommend Bound. I was also impressed with Ms. Dubois’ conveyance of BDSM as more than sexual pleasure.
Despite all the good points, the pace of the story was a bit slow at the beginning. I felt more should be happening to move the storyline along. By a third of the way through, this issue was rectified.
Bound is an erotic fantasy that will draw you in and leave you wishing you could be part of the Zinah world. A sizzling exotic romance, I look forward to reading more of Ms. Dubois’ work.
