Nyx Ciar and her partner Olivia run a PI company in New York City. To the casual observer, Nyx is an exotic looking young woman with black hair, a creamy pale complexion and an athletic build. She is beautiful and powerful. Olivia provides counterpoint with her Latin and African heritage. Together they are a formidable team specializing in paranormal activity.

After dark is another matter. Nyx is part of a paranormal group called Trackers. Along with other species, she protects both human and otherworldly beings from harm. Together with her fellow Trackers, she hunts demons. Nighttime is when Nyx can let her true nature out, when she transforms from half human to half Drow, a Dark Elf princess.

When Trackers start getting killed, and humans are being attacked, demons are up to something. The team, led by Nyx' former lover Rodan, is scrambling to decipher the evidence, find clues and stop them before it is too late. Olivia is clamoring to join in the fun, and Detective Adam Boyd wants more from Nyx than a professional relationship.

It sounds like everyone has their hands full in Demons Not Included, and they do. Thankfully, this debut novel for Cheyenne McCray's new series is well-constructed. Otherwise all the action would be a muddled mess. Instead we have page-turning suspense, a fair amount of humor, passion, and romance.

Ms. McCray leaves readers both satiated at the completion of this story, and eager for the next installment.
