As a grad student, Merit’s life isn’t glamorous, but it’s just the way she likes it. All that changes when she’s attacked in a vicious vampire attack while walking through campus. To save her life, Master vampire of the Cadogan House, Ethan Sullivan turns her into a vampire. Only being a vampire comes with a whole new set of problems.
Despite her attraction to the tall, green eyed, four hundred year old vampire, Ethan; she cannot bring herself to obey House rules – especially the gratitude and servitude part. But Merit’s growing powers rival that of even the oldest vampires; throw into the mix an enemy who wants her dead and Merit’s life is changed beyond recognition.
What’s a twenty first century girl going to do when her initiation could mean war?
Where can I start with Some Girls Bite? In a nutshell, this has to be one of the my favorite books of the year. From the opening page, Ms. Neill sucks you into the story and won’t let you go until the final sentence…even then I had to let go begrudgingly. I wanted more! While the plot is not necessarily new – woman gets attacked by vampire, is turned by the Master vampire of a prestigious house - Chloe Neill’s voice is fresh, sharp and snappy. Numerous times I found myself snorting with laughter.
Merit is my favorite ‘urban fantasy’ heroine of the year. She’s sassy, she’s feisty and yet she still believes ice cream can solve everything – my type of heroine. The sexual tension between her and Ethan – Lord and Master of Cadogan House- literally sizzles! As does the tension between her and Morgan, a rival suitor from another house.
Engaging and well written, I cannot say enough good things about this book. Even the secondary characters are highly intriguing. Ms. Neill’s Chicagoland vampire series is definitely a must read. I cannot wait for the next installment.
If you like action, romance, quippy sarcasm, funny heroines and fantasy, pick up a copy of Some Girls Bite. You won’t be disappointed.
