Jenner Redwine had something happen to her that we all wish would happen to us – she won the lottery for $295,000,000.00. The downside is the money-hungry “best friend”, ex-boyfriend Dylan and her loser thief father, plus her own fear.
Fast forward seven years - For a woman who never had any money, Jenner’s come a long way. While she may not “fit in” with “high class society”, she has her friend Sydney, her condo and she’s managed to add to her fortune so she’s content, if a tad bored. Next up is a charity cruise on a brand-new ship! Little does she realize what fate has in store for her!
Cael Traylor is a surveillance specialist for certain areas of the government. His next assignment is Frank Larkin, co-owner of The Silver Mist cruise ship. Larkin is a “mover and shaker” who has arranged a meet with the North Koreans in Hawaii. Cael’s job is to find out what he’s giving to the North Koreans and report because the government doesn’t want anything in the hands of the North Koreans. However, Mr. Larkin has more going on than even his own security force knows. In order for Cael to do his job, he’s kidnapping Sydney, Jenner’s best friend and becoming Jenner’s “new” roommate since her cabin is right next door to Larkin’s! Little does he realize what fate has in store for him.
If I could give Burn by Linda Howard 10 roses, I would! Cael is your typically yummy Linda Howard hero and Jenner is a kick-ass heroine, when her best friend is not at risk. The sexual tension between Jenner and Cael just screams “Take me, I’m yours!” once she stops trying to escape. The secondary characters are all very interesting, with the exception of the villain. The villain is an incredibly selfish, demented human being, which, I guess, would make him interesting to some people! *shudder* Linda Howard’s sense of humor comes through loud and clear in the book - I had several laugh-out-loud moments. Ms. Howard, I’d love to see more stories about this team – Tiffany & Sanchez, perhaps someone special for Adam and someone extra special for Syd? Thank you for a wonderful book!
