Claire Malvern awakens one night to find that her husband Keith is missing. After searching all over their newly purchased lodge she decides to call the police.
Sheriff Nick Braden is dispatched to answer Claire’s frantic phone call, and after arriving on the scene Nick does his own search. Realizing that Keith might had a accident he searches the infamous Bloodroot Bridge where many a person has met their fate in the turbulent falls below. After recovering Keith’s body, Claire is adamant that her husband did not kill himself. Considering that her mother took her own life in 1979, Claire sets out to prove that Keith was, in fact, murdered. Nick is reluctant at first to help her, but after a threat is made to Claire he too becomes involved in proving that it was not an accident.
The Falls is a fast paced story with many twist and turns, like a classic whodunit. Though there isn`t much romance in the novel between Nick and Claire the two have a great chemistry and it is seen through their exchanges with one another. Nick is a great hero - wary of the situation with Claire due to the fact that his wife didn`t trust him enough to tell him that she was ill and as he slowly falls in love with Claire he is torn between trusting and believing her. Claire was so sure that she knew her husband and as many secrets are brought to light including infidelity with someone she thought was a friend, she is hesitant to trust Nick. This is a pager turner. Not only is there one bad guy but there are several! In fact out of all of them I thought “The Watcher” was the creepiest of them all and when this person`s identity is revealed I was very shocked - I never would of suspected this person in a million years. Ms.Harper did a wonderful job and if you want to be scared this a definite recommended read.
