Life is never boring in the Ladies Literary Society of London. Especially with Lady Emily Stapleford on the premises. Having just returned from the country Emily has much to tell her friends. Her father’s debts have rendered the family on the brink of ruin. As the eldest it falls to Emily to make a match with a wealthy gentleman in order to save her family. But Emily, being Emily, has come up with an alternative solution. She has written a scandalous novel of her own. Unfortunately, publishers are not keen on the idea of a vampire heroine. Once again her quick wit comes to her rescue. Emily will make appearances during the balls of the season dressed as a female vampire. Just a glimpse is all that is needed. The imagination of the ton will do the rest. Once word begins to spread of a female vampire on the loose, the publishers will undoubtedly change their minds and buy her story. Emily will then rescue her family with the funds she collects.
Writing is not all that occupied Emily’s mind while she was in the country. She could not stop thinking of Logan Jennsen and the kiss they’d shared at Julianne’s wedding. This secret is one she will not share with her close friends. Logan is the man to whom her father owes money. It is very irritating that he is never far from her thoughts. She spends a lot of energy trying to convince herself and everyone else that she does not like Logan.
Emily irritates Logan yet he can’t stop thinking about her. At first glance, Emily embodies everything Logan dislikes about London’s social class. She looks down her nose at him as if he is of inferior stock. The fact that he is American and has earned his vast wealth does not help his case. It is true that he came from the streets, but as far as Logan is concerned it helped him reach this point in his life.
Logan thinks his past is behind him, but soon realizes that not all is as it seems. He has felt eyes watching him for days now. He hires Gideon Mayne to find out what is happening. With Gideon on the case, Logan is free to find out what Emily is doing. He noticed the devilish gleam in her eye and knows her well enough to figure it means trouble.
