Jonas Tallent needs an innkeeper. He never expected taking up the reins of estate management for his father would give him so much satisfaction. He did not realize how tired he was of the social scene and how bored and cynical he had become. Working with the home farm and the village of Colyston is providing a sense of purpose and belonging that he missed. Now if he can just find a competent innkeeper he will be satisfied.

Emily Beauregard thinks it was the perfect solution. She and her siblings need a reason to remain in Colyston while they look for their family inheritance, but not announce their connection to the village history. A few doctored letters of recommendation, and she is certain she will be considered for the job. After visiting the inn, she can see that it would need a lot of work, but she is eager to begin. Now all she has to do was convince the owner.

In her latest novel, author Stephanie Laurens brings her love of repartee and character-building skill together in fine fashion. Temptation and Surrender is a sparkling novel that entertains from beginning to end. Jonas and Emily are the perfect foils for each other, and watching them negotiate their way to romance is charming.

Readers will enjoy a glimpse into Cynster life, since Jonas' twin is Phyllida, wife of Lucifer Cynster. There are plenty of villagers about, offering advice and support whether it is needed or not, and a tempting mystery to solve. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable read, one that will keep you chuckling and engrossed until the final page.
