Kate Holly's life is never dull. Her career as a psychologist brings her in contact with a wide range of patients, many of whom are true "nutcases". It seems like just another day when a woman who thinks she is Marie Osmond arrives in Kate's office. This patient puts Kate back in touch with her former boyfriend, Dr. Thad Glazer.
Kate may be spending more time with Thad soon. She is being evicted from her office after a scary incident involving an explosion. She is more than a little nervous about being close to Thad. They do have a history, but Kate is still going through counseling with her ex-husband, Jay. Jay is a firefighter and the dangers of his job had put their marriage on the rocks. They seem to be able to communicate better in the bedroom than in the counselor's office. Kate is even more fearful about Jay's safety in light of some serious fires that seem to be arson committed by a firefighter.
Nutcase is the second in the Kate Holly series. Ms. Hughes weaves in pertinent issues from the first novel, but you don't want to miss the fun of What Looks Like Crazy . Both novels use romance, suspense and many well-crafted quirky characters to achieve pure reading fun. The ending of Nutcase is left rather open, but that is fine with me since there will be a new novel, Hanging by a Thread coming soon from Jove Books.
I first discovered Charlotte Hughes through the "Full" books she wrote with Janet Evanovich. I loved them all, but Ms. Hughes has her own unique voice and I hope to go back and read her back list very soon.
