Sue Finley is a successful mystery writer. Coming up with creative ways to kill people has become her mantra, but things start to go south when a dead rat is delivered to her door with the word “die” written on it. Talk about bone-chilling!

When detective Jason Dodd hears about the dead rat that Sue received, his body goes on high alert. While Jason has successfully avoided Sue since they shared a kiss four months ago, he definitely has not gotten her out of his head. And with Sue in danger, that means he is sticking around.

Sue does not want Jason around because she is still hurt that they shared a passionate kiss but then he never called her back. Sue’s luck with men has not been very good lately but that does not mean she wants Jason around, even if he is a cop out to protect her.

As the death threats become more alarming, Sue and Jason are bonded together by fear and by intense sexual heat. But will Sue let down her guard enough to let Jason in?

Divorced, Desperate and Dating is a sweet and simple romance and a rather scandalous mystery. There are enough red herrings and clues to make you wonder just who is out to get Sue, but Christie Craig leaves a good trail about the true culprit to keep you interested. Unfortunately, the romance itself is somewhat lacking. It has plenty of heat and sass but it is very, very slow moving. Sue has been hurt badly in the past; Jason does not believe in long term, but their issues are given a few chapters too many to explore. I wanted to see things move along at a better pace.

Jason is a strong and silent type, but he is also ready to show Sue just how much he wants her. Sue is so hesitant to give him another chance that I kind of felt like her love life’s romantic disaster was mostly her own fault. However, she is still a likable character who is not afraid to rely on Jason’s protection.

Divorced, Desperate and Dating is a nice mix of comedic hijinks and sweet, if slow, romance. Christie Craig provides a high entertainment factor and that kept me reading. I would be willing to give this author another try.
