Olivia Raines is a notorious courtesan and proud to hold that title. Julian Southwood, Earl of Erith, is a notorious rake and couldn’t care less. Each live by their own set of rules. Neither one caring who approves. When the two meet it is like the clash of the titans.

She is looking for a new lover. One more until she retires. Olivia doesn’t expect anything different in the man she chooses. Why should she? Perhaps she is jaded in her view of the world, but life has taught her to be so. Her surprise is genuine when she meets the Earl of Erith. Here is a man with a heart as cold as hers. She needn’t worry he will get his heart broken when she decides to end the affair. Julian piques her interest. When he asks her to become his mistress, Olivia accepts only if he will agree to her terms. Julian is unaccustomed to being told what to do and the two lock horns. It won’t be the last time.

Julian is in London for his daughter’s wedding. As a diplomat, he is rarely home and has missed the important moments in his children's lives. He will not miss this one. He decides to take a mistress during his stay. Olivia, a well-known mistress, is available for a new lover. Upon meeting her Julian knows he must have her. He learns there is more to Olivia than meets the eye. Never one to back down to a challenge, Julian determines to find the real woman beneath the façade.

Tempt the Devil is a strong, character driven romance with enough spice to warm you on a cold winter night. Author Anna Campbell knows her characters and is not afraid to bare them to the reader. In doing so she knows the reader will become linked with the story, drawn in, and eagerly awaiting the outcome. Ms. Campbell’s work is clever, intense, and sensual. I love how Julian’s effort to free Olivia from her demons also frees him from his own. This story develops naturally and intimately with each turn of the page.

This is my first book by Anna Campbell and I can guarantee I will be reading more of her work.
