When Keira Kelly decided to make a break from her powerful clan and live among humans in the Texas Hill country, she did not expect to be the babysitter for her cousin. As the town mortician, Marty may deal with death all day, but he is as human as the rest of them. This makes him a vulnerable point for the family, and Keira must be on guard for anyone who poses a threat. Unfortunately, trouble finds Marty like ice cream and a cone. He has an affinity for get-rich schemes that always backfire.

His latest scheme puts him in the morgue.

Strange things are happening in town, and Keira wants to get to the bottom of it. Her old flame, Carlton Larson, is now the sheriff, and he seems determined to solve Marty's murder. It may all tie in to the new resort that opened, and the odd nocturnal habits of the guests. Since Keira is not wholly human, she decides to investigate. Will she find murder or something else?

Author Maria Lima begins a new paranormal series in Matters of the Blood. Keira is an interesting character, meets her match in Adam Walker, the resort owner. Neither one is quite what they seem to be and yet, they may be perfect for each other.

I am looking forward to the next installment to see where this series is headed.
