FBI agent Lily Yu and her lupi mate Rule Turner, of the Nokolai werewolf clan, are in North Carolina to accept custody of Ruleís son Toby from his maternal grandmother. It is supposed to be a purely personal tripóno monsters, no demons, and no dimensional rifts. Of course fate had another plan in store for Lily and Rule.
Rule discovers three bodies in a shallow grave while in wolf form that stink of death magic. Unfortunately that makes the murders a federal crime and means Lily must take charge of the investigation. It is soon apparent to Lily that the evidence and the suspect they have apprehended do not match up. Before she can discover why the two donít add up another murder is committed by another unlikely killer.
On a personal note, the mother of Ruleís son arrives in town to challenge Rule for full custody of their son. Then the impossible happens when Lily is the victim of a magical attack.
Rule and Lilyís relationship continues to grow and change before our eyes in Mortal Sins. Long established strong characters can surprise readers and that what Lily and Rule do here. The deep emotional connection this couple inspires, the magic they wield and their urge to protect the world, even from itself, is the reason we come back every time. Enjoy!
