Authors are those creative and talented people who can bring a character to life on the printed page. An accomplished author can not only “feel” the life of the characters, but often must spin another story when a secondary figure demands equal time. Nick Gentry first charmed readers in Lady Sophia’s Lover, and now has a story of his own in Worth Any Price.
Gentry, the best Bow Runner and thief-taker in London, has a shady past, underworld contacts, and the reputation as a very dangerous man. He has taken a commission to find the runaway fiancee of an eccentric nobleman. The task seems easy enough, until he finds his quarry, Charlotte Howard.
Charlotte has fled from the manipulations of her betrothed, preferring life on the run to the stifling existence waiting for her as Lady Radnor. Her family’s financial obligations have forced them to agree to the match, with little thought to Lottie’s future. She is courageous and intelligent, two qualities that Nick admires. Soon his attraction for her is so strong that he offers to help her rather than return her to Lord Radnor.
This is a wonderful book. The characters are compelling, with all-too-human fears and foibles. They complement each other very well and the subplots are inventive and interesting. The sensuous love scenes are steamy and provocative. Worth Any Price is definitely worth reading.
