He is the last man. Of all four gentlemen who wagered on marriage, no one ever believed that Oliver Leighton, the Earl of Norcroft, would be the last to wed. The most surprised was Oliver himself, who readily admitted that he wanted to marry, and considered himself a romantic. Now as his three friends have found their soul mates, Oliver is alone. Perhaps some time spent on his estate will pull him out of this brooding and point him in the right direction. If nothing else, his matchmaking mother will have plenty of likely candidates to discuss.
Lady Kathleen MacDavid never even heard of the family curse – until it was too late. Her own husband had died young, but it wasn’t until her current suitors all seemed to meet with accidents that she learned of the ancient tale. Now she is forced to admit that there may be some truth to it. The only way she will know for certain is to meet the English nobleman whose family was also involved, and see if there any attraction between them. After all, a marriage five hundred years in the making should have some passion, shouldn’t it?
As the final book in her Last Man Standing series, author Victoria Alexander has found the perfect characters in Kathleen and Oliver. Each of them is mature enough to recognize love, but old enough to distrust the emotion and resist the allure. I enjoyed every moment of Seduction of a Proper Gentleman and am sorry to see the series at an end.
