October is the time of trick or treating, and this year Carly Phillips has given her readers a real treat in her newest release Lucky Charm.
Derek Corwin has lived in or near his hometown of Stewart for all his life, and as the previous males in his family he has been affected by what is known throughout the area as The Corwin Curse. The curse is said to prevent the male members of the Corwin family from finding true love and financial success. A displeased former lover, Mary Perkins, put it upon the males of the Corwin family.
To try to avoid the curse Derek broke up with his high school sweetheart, Gabrielle Donovan. He then ended up marrying someone he wasnít in love with because he believed that if he didnít truly love his mate he would avoid the curse.
Unfortunately this plan didnít work for Derek, and not only was his life affected, but so was Gabrielleís, his ex wifeís Marlene, and his young daughter, Holly. Now many years later fate has conspired to bring all of them together again.
Even the Perkins family has not been left unaffected by the curse. They are now a very powerful family in town, but as you read Lucky Charm you have to wonder if they use their power for the betterment of the town, or for their own devices.
Lucky Charm is the first book in a trilogy, and while it does a passable job of being a stand-alone book, I think it does a wonderful job of making readers impatient for the remaining books of the trilogy. For this reader June 2009 and the arrival of Lucky Streak canít come quite fast enough.
