Lilith Mallory was once going to marry Gabriel Warren but circumstances drove them apart. Each blamed the other.

Ten years later Gabriel returns to England to find Lilith running a notorious gaming house!

A Game of Scandal features one of the best heroines I have read about. Lilith is everything society frowns on, while Gabriel is a most upstanding gentleman who moves in the best circles. The scene is set for fireworks as both Gabriel and Lilith try to fight a love that has never died. Their passion fair makes the pages of the book crackle!

There is a danger and a good mystery in the story as well. Also, the truth of what really drove them apart ten years before eventually emerges adding to the intrigue of the plot.

Humour, is not forgotten by Kathryn Smith either. Some very witty lines of dialogue will make the ready chuckle to themselves!

With close to 400 hundred pages, it is a long read; but because the story is so well written, there is not a boring chapter in the book. The reader will find many surprises as each chapter opens.

Really good secondary characters like Latimer, the massive ex boxer bodyguard who looks after Lilith with a fierce protectiveness, and Mary Smith, who is Lilith’s companion. She is a practical no nonsense woman who Lilith rescued from a brutal husband.

Kathryn Smith has written a tight plotline with lots of passion and jealousy as well as mystery and what seems like an impossible future for the principal characters. With much skill, the author carries the reader through to the dramatic climax of the story. Definitely one for the collectors!
