Jesse Keyes has been gone for five years but she is coming home a more mature, happy woman. Jesse knows it will not be easy, making amends to her family, particularly to Nicole, but she wants to move forward and hopefully become a valuable part of Keyes Bakery. Most important of all, she wants to introduce her four-year-old son, Gabe, to his father.

When Jesse shows up at his door with pictures of a small boy, and claims that it is his son, Matt Fenner is shocked and angry. While Jesse claimed she was pregnant five years ago before she left, Matt never believed the child was his. Confronted with the evidence, evidence that looks like him, Matt is left with a thirst for revenge. How could Jesse not make more effort to convince him of her pregnancy?

Jesse is determined to make amends with Matt, and with her family. She anticipates a rough battle of wills between herself and Nicole. With a troubled history she is determined to put behind her, will Jesse finally find her happily-ever-after?

Here is another book where your emotions become involved right away. Jesse has made several bad mistakes through the course of this series so it is understandable that her family is so hesitant to trust her. However, Jesse has made a leap of faith in coming back to Seattle so she is trying her hardest to be patient with her family. Itís easy to see how Jesse has matured. Her relationship with young Gabe is a joy to read about. Here is a woman who found her place, her joy, and the strength she needed, through motherhood. Itís not her only happiness but it was a good starting point for Jesse. Family dynamics take center stage again, so be prepared for a showdown between these sisters.

Susan Mallery ends this series on a high note. Sweet Trouble touches the heart and the emotions with equal intensity.
