First Blood is a paranormal anthology by Susan Sizemore, Erin McCarthy, Chris Marie Green and Meljean Brook.
Cave Canem by Susan Sizemore is a continuation of her Laws of the Universe series. Dan Conover is a vampire enforcer. Tess Sirella is a guardian of the human race against the paranormal. Oh, she’s also a werewolf. Can a vampire and a werewolf work together, after centuries of distrust, to save the world from a demon bent on destruction?
Russian Roulette by Erin McCarthy tells the story of vampires Alistair Kirk and Sasha Chechikov. Alistair hears of a vampire kidnapped and held against their will, to be sold to vampire slayers. Alistair comes to the rescue, freeing the kidnapped vampire. While Sasha may be thrilled to see Alistair, all she wants is to run. She’s not safe, since she’s a former slayer turned vampire. Alistair, after hearing part of her history, gives her the opportunity to leave but tells her that he can keep her safe, if she’ll let him. What will Sasha do?
Double The Bite by Chris Marie Green is a novella that takes place in the author’s Vampire Babylon World and tells the story of Ginny and Geneva. Ben Tyree’s brother Nolan was murdered in New York and he’s there to try and help the police. After some investigating he discovers that he’s supposed to look for a woman named “Ginny”. Ginny feels something for Ben but Geneva wants to use him to feed. Ben does discover what happened to Nolan but will he end up the same way?
Thicker Than Blood by Meljean Brook tells the story of vampire Annie Gallagher, who lost everything the night she was turned. So did Jack Harrington, former FBI agent who loved Annie but when he’d been told that she died, he was devastated – he even broke down at her funeral! Neither thought they’d see the other again but fate and Annie’s hunger changed that. Now that Jack is back, maybe he can help Annie find a lost little girl in a city full of bad guys just wanting to get their hands on her!
I enjoyed this anthology, although the stories written by Ms. Sizemore and Ms. Green really needed to be read in order with the rest of the series. My favorite story was Ms. Brook’s – I just loved everything about Annie and Jack! I felt like I was right there with them as they battled bad guys, lust, lies. If you are a paranormal fan or a fan of vampires, treat yourself to this delightful book!
