July brings fans of Brenda Novak the second chilling installment of her The Last Stand trilogy entitled Stop Me. Readers will be setting aside all their responsibilities to sit with Stop Me and read until the last page is turned.
Jasmine Stafford has never gotten over the abduction of her sister Kimberly. Even though it’s now twelve years later she’s convinced that she can solve the abduction and even though she doesn’t believe that Kimberly is still alive she wants closure so she can fully move on with her life.
While attempting to solve her own mystery Jasmine and two others who have been victims of crime have begun a charity called The Last Stand. It’s through The Last Stand that a package is delivered to Jasmine. In the package is a bracelet that once belonged to Kimberly. It is enough to convince Jasmine to set aside everything and go to Louisiana to see if she can find the man she believes responsible for the abduction.
Her investigation leads her to Romain Fornier whose daughter Adele was not only abducted, but murdered as well. Are the two cases so many years apart related? As Jasmine convinces Romain of her beliefs and convictions will he be convinced that the man responsible is still operational?
Ms. Novak has written another sure-fire winner. Stop me is fraught with danger throughout, but as it escalates you as a reader truly begin to fear for the characters, and are rooting for the good guys to arrive in time. I must warn you that if you should decide to read Stop Me in parts...that as the danger escalates and it looks as though the “baddies” will succeed you’ll want to be sure you have a good block of reading time because you’ll be unable to set the book aside until the very last page is turned.
