Katie Chandler has left the Big Apple behind. She has resigned her post at Magic, Spells and Illusions Inc., and headed home to Texas. She believes that she is doing the right thing in distancing herself from Owen Palmer because he needs to concentrate on stopping the evil wizard Idris from causing more mayhem. She has become a target and Owen feels the need to protect her, which keeps him from being focused on the main problem.

It feels odd to come home to Cobb, Texas and to live in her parent’s house again. She even takes back her job at the family feed store. She misses the city, her roommates and most of all Owen. But she knows she has made the right decision. There is no magic in Cobb, so it is the last place anyone would look for her. At least that is what she has always believed.

When strange things start happening to some of the townspeople, Katie is afraid that magic may have followed her home. Someone in town is working spells, and people are being robbed. It may not be Idris, but it is still something to investigate.

I was so sad at the end of Damsel Under Stress, that I was eagerly waiting for the fourth book in Shanna Swendson’s series to arrive. Don’t Hex with Texas is a hoot, filled with quirky characters like Katie’s grandmother, and of course many of the MSI co-workers we have come to enjoy from previous books. I hope that there are more adventures in store for Owen and Katie, but if Ms. Swendson decides to move on, this book is a good stopping point. I won’t give away the story, but suffice it to say that readers who have been hoping to a Happily Ever After will not be disappointed.
