Karen Kelley continues her planet Nerak series with The Bad Boys Guide to the Galaxy. Lara, a healer on Nerak, has just arrived on earth to find a cure for one of the Elders on the planet. The Elder is very ill and if a cure is not found, Lara is sure she will die. She needs plants for her research and unfortunately for Sam Jones, a cop in much need of a vacation, he has been elected to help her. What better place to commune with nature and find the cure she needs than in the Texas countryside, where Sam just wants a little R & R, not alien trouble.

Lara is a bit snotty, a bit pretentious, but she is also incredibly sexy and amusing to Sam. He finds her constant comparisons between Earth and Nerak highly annoying though. It is only when Lara starts to let her hair down a bit that she starts to realize that there is much more to Earth, and Sam, than meets the eye. Maybe Nerak has no wars, disease, or pain, but it also does not have the fun of casinos, the ecstasy of chocolate, and the sexy body of one Sam Jones. Lara is determined to avoid Earth’s temptations, but it is getting harder and harder, especially as Sam is slipping into her heart. With her loyalties to Nerak on the line, will Lara find the cure she needs and say goodbye to Sam forever?

I just find these stories so much fun. Karen Kelley has managed to keep this series fresh and amusing. Lara is definitely a bit more stuck on Nerak than her fellow Nerakians in the previous stories. She truly believes it is the best place to live but her perceptions slowly change as the story continues. She starts to see that Nerak, while a good place, is definitely missing some of the life Earth has to offer.

As always, the romance is sizzling! Karen Kelley writes passionate and considerate men. Sam may get exasperated often, but he sees the good in Lara and is willing to give her a chance. Their courtship is a bit unusual but that just makes it all the more interesting.

The Bad Boys Guide to the Galaxy keeps the laughter coming and the romance alive. This is a mad-cap story with several intriguing plot twists to keep Nerak, Sam, and Lara hopping.
