Sophie Tyler is a FDNY firefighter and she’s never wanted to be anything else. One morning in Bailey’s Irish Pub, she gets an eyeful of Liam O’Neil……and what an eyeful! She’s lost her roommate and looking for a part-time job so she doesn’t have to take on another roommate and Bailey’s needs a part timer. Coincidence or karma? Sophie and Liam get to know one another and the more they know about one another, the more they desire one another. After a couple of “close calls” on the job, Sophie finds herself without Liam for a couple of reasons that she feels could have been worked out. Can Sophie give up her lifelong dream for Liam?
Liam O’Neil, part owner of the pub and cook, has the upmost respect for firefighters and when he catches sight of Sophie, he decides that he’d like to ask her out. Several things stand in the way – his two sons, her “availability” and the fact that he’s just now getting back into the dating game after the death of his wife three years prior. Once they start dating, the fuse is lit! However, there are forces working against them - the first being the fear that Liam and his boys go through every time Sophie goes to work, especially with an arsonist on the prowl! Can Liam adjust his thinking about her job for Sophie?
Taking The Heat by Kathryn Shay is the third book about the close and caring O’Neil family. It never ceases to amaze me how Kathryn Shay’s characters draw you into their world and make you care and understand; they won’t let you be just a voyeur. Liam and Sophie are dynamite together and Mikey, Liam’s youngest, is a cool kid! It was great to see the rest of the O’Neil family. Kathryn Shay has another winner on her hands! If you haven’t read anything by this author, please do! You won’t be sorry!
