Sam’s Creed is the second title in the Hell’s Eight series and gives us a much deeper insight into Texas Ranger Sam “Wildcard” MacGregor. When he stumbles across some burned out wagons, he doesn’t expect to find anyone alive, let alone a headstrong little woman who has no problem speaking her mind.

Isabella is desperate to get out of this area and away from Tejala, a mad man who wants her. Tejala’s twisted mind has him believing that taking a virgin will increase his power. Unfortunately, he already has plenty of men in his power, men who are looking for Isabella everywhere.

Despite his fierce reputation, there’s no way Sam is going to leave Isabelle to fight her own battles. He’s on a mission to locate Desi’s (introduced in Caine’s Reckoning) sister, so he just brings Isabella along. He admires her spunk, even when he’d prefer she listen to what he tells her. As she travels with him, she comes to respect his treatment of women and his morals, even if he leaves a trail of dead men behind him.

When they aren’t fighting for their lives, Isabella is trying to seduce Sam. It’s harder than she imagined as her innocence leaves her a little unsure of her actions. Sam is very tempted but he knows in the future when she finds a man she truly wants to marry, she’ll regret having given herself to another man. But as their journey continues, he realizes he’s fallen in love with her and doesn’t know how he’s going to say goodbye once he sees her home. But first he has to find Tejala and ensure her safety for good.

The jaunty banter between Sam and Isabella is almost as much fun to read as the sexual tension that develops. I did miss the interaction with the other Hell’s Eight men, and am definitely looking forward to their future stories.
