This author has given us several great stories set in Scotland, filled with strong-willed women and sexy Highlanders. With My Immortal Protector she builds on this premise, introducing a very different hero.
Deidra MacKay comes from a family of witches, but while her parents have the power to heal, she feels cursed with the ability to understand animals. And this so called gift has come to the attention of witch hunter Luthias Forsyth. When Deidra hears the tale of how a baobhan sith (blood witch) is responsible for her family's powers, she decides to see if she can find it and have her powers removed. Stealing out in the night she travels to see Stephen Ross, a recluse and cripple. At first she wonders if perhaps he is the one she seeks, but finds him to be just a man.
When Stephen learns of Deidraís plans, he decides to accompany her. Heís not sure he believes in vampires, but if they are real he hopes he can find a way to live as a whole man again. As they travel, Stephen learns just how much danger Deidra is in as the witch hunter follows after them. And the longer they are together, the more they realize how much they desire each other.
Both Deidra and Stephen are wonderful characters you canít help but love, but this romance has some very dark scenes. Luthias Forsyth is convinced heís doing Godís work and he will do absolutely anything to get what he wants. Secondary characters are introduced, which Iím hoping means this is just the first book in a new trilogy or series.
