Have you ever wondered how your life would have been different had you been born into a rich and famous family? Would it change your life for better or for worse? What if you’re an older person and suddenly find out that your father is indeed a popular rock star, one that you yourself love to listen to…would you want to be a part of his life, or to remain in your well-established life. This is the premise of Barbara Bretton’s newest book, Just Desserts.

Hayley Maitland Goldstein never knew her father. Her mother, famous scientist Jane Maitland was older when Hayley was born, and believed it best for all if she kept Hayley’s father a secret. It was one she was determined would go to her grave with her, but as we all know our plans can and do change, and now Jane is working her way to tell Hayley the truth.

Unfortunately, someone beats Jane to the punch, and Hayley’s parentage is about to be revealed. When, where, and how I will not tell, as you’ll need to read Just Desserts to find out for yourself. What I can tell you is that Ms. Bretton will draw you right into the pages of Just Desserts and have you wishing that you were eating one of the wonderful desserts or breads from Goldy’s Bakery, or walking the streets of the small community where Goldy’s is located.

As I started Just Desserts I was unsure what to expect. I was at first disappointed because it seemed to start out slowly, however just a few pages in I was reading as quickly as I could, having become so entrenched in the story. I know I would like a family like the one that Hayley discovers, and the one that she has had all her life.

If you’ve not ever read Ms. Bretton then you are in for a real treat with Just Desserts. If you are a fan of Ms. Bretton already than you will want to be first in line when Just Desserts is released.
