Daria does fit the usual mold of a harpy. Harpies are half woman and half vulture whose primary task is to snatch nasty people and creatures and fly them off to the underworld of Tartarus. They are known to be cruel, vicious and ugly. Daria does not want to get fired by Hades, the lord of Tartarus. With Hades, getting "fired" takes on a much more ominous meaning. To prove her worth to Hades as potential management material, Daria gets a job as manager of the Woo Woo Inn, a guesthouse that caters to non-humans and those who are intrigued by the paranormal. Being near all sorts of creatures of the night, Daria may be able to capture her next victim while doing her new job. Her new boss is a talking cat named Ganymede who is a cosmic troublemaker. Sparkle Stardust is Ganymede's long time partner and takes Daria on as a makeover project from the very first. Daria bemoans the fact she will never be the classic gruesome harpy if Sparkle turns her into a paranormal fashionista.

Declan MacKenzie is one of the inn's guest and Daria is afraid he is the one she is to drag off to Tartarus. She really wants to drag Declan off to the nearest bed so she can be more in touch with his hard body and the sexy signals he is sending out. Fate has more than sizzling nights in store for the pair. Some sort of evil creature is eating the guests and leaving just one finger behind. Even worse, an apocalypse may be on the horizon. Can Daria and her family avert catastrophe? Can love overcome evil?

Daria is a strong, resourceful heroine. Even we humans can relate to her inner conflicts and desires. Declan is an absolutely yummy hero. Even his name is perfect. Despite his tough exterior, he is enticing in his vulnerabilities as well as strengths. The chemistry between these two characters sizzles from the start. The author deftly juggles a variety of characters, both comic and scary. One Bite Stand is part of a series, but is easy to follow on its own. The mixture of humor, humor and spicy romance is pure fun.

I am embarrassed to say this is my first foray into Ms. Bangs' body of work. I am thrilled to have been given a chance to review a book by this bestselling author. I plan to go back and read earlier novels in this charming series. I will look forward to future books, both in this series and others.
