For a long time Iíve been a huge fan of Kristin Hannahís. I think I must have been the only person in my orbit that didnít like her book Magic Hour. I was worried that Ms. Hannah might be taking a different direction in her writing style, but of course I wasnít going to give up based on one book. This year Ms. Hannah brings readers Firefly Lane.
Firefly Lane is the story of two best friends, Talluah (Tully) Hart, and Kate Mularkey Ryan. The two first meet in 1970 and Firefly Lane follows the roller coaster of their friendship through to current times.
As you read Iím sure that youíll find yourself fully identifying with either the outgoing effervescent Tully or the more reserved, follow the leader, Kate. If like me youíre a somewhat slightly older reader, Firefly Lane will remind you of your own high school and college years. If youíre a somewhat younger reader then perhaps youíll gain a better appreciation for your parents, and even perhaps your grandparents.
Ms. Hannah uses her talent to tell the story of two womenís lives and how they each find their passion, and even though their passions are totally different they manage to stay friends, until one terrible betrayal of one to the other. Months of silence follow, but when Kate needs Tully the months melt away, and the strength of their bond is renewed.
Firefly Lane is an unforgettable journey through time and friendship. I am immensely relieved to have read a story by Ms. Hannah that touched my heart, and had me feeling deeply for each character. Please have the tissues ready when you read, and prepare to be unable to put Firefly Lane aside until the last page has been turned.
