Nicolas Keenan is Draicon, a race of shapeshifters from another dimension living in harmony with the earth and humanity. He is sworn to uphold pack law and protect them from enemies, especially the rogues called Morphs. His latest task is the most important. He must find their lost empath and bring her home. Their Alpha is dying of a strange disease and only the empath can save him. More importantly, the woman, missing since she was a child, is his mate.

Veterinarian Maggie Sinclair was devastated. None of the treatments she had tried had helped to ease her dog Misha’s suffering. Her closest companion is dying. Maggie won’t give up though. She has always had an affinity for healing and for easing animals in pain, and she will find a cure. Orphaned at a young age, Maggie has no family of her own, and she won’t accept that Misha is dying.

Author Bonnie Vanak brings readers an unusual spin on shapeshifters with her latest novel, The Empath. Nicholas is a very interesting hero with some dark aspects to his character. Maggie, unfortunately, has no idea who she really is, and this leads to some misunderstanding when she first meets the man destined to become her mate.
