Ten long painful years ago up-and-coming journalist Lexi Murrough was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it almost ended her life! Thanks to the fast thinking of a mysterious soldier, whose eyes have haunted her ever since, she lives a completely different, very lonely life now. Now she’s the President of “Helping Hands”, a charity that assists the needy world-wide and she’s happy with her life until someone decides to make her life miserable, and short-lived, if possible!
Deke Bronson is a haunted man. He truly believes he made a tragic mistake ten years ago and he’s never forgiven himself or forgotten. Now he’s come face-to-face with the results of his “actions”. As a bodyguard for Dundee Private Security and Investigation Agency, he’s under orders to protect her, with his life if need be, from a lunatic assailant.
Can they find the person responsible for turning Lexie’s world upside-down - the cold-blooded killer who is slowly but surely destroying Lexie’s world? What is the link between the killer and the supposed terrorist cell operating in the South? Can Deke keep her safe...from himself?
A Time to Die has to be one of Beverly Barton’s best! I was hooked immediately - from the tragedy that occurred in the first few pages through the disasters befalling Lexie and the staff of Helping Hands, Deke’s self-condemnation and his desire to protect Lexie at all cost, even from himself!! It was wonderful to meet new characters and reacquaint myself with Dundee Agency Staff. I certainly hope to see a book on Cara and Bain in the future!
Ms. Barton takes us through a host of unsavory suspects, while keeping us on the edge of our seats with Lexie and Deke and the unforgivable secret between them! Lexie is a wonderfully strong yet sympathetic heroine and Deke is the perfect protector! Excellent read – thanks, Ms. Barton!
