This sequel to Complete Abandon proves yet again why Ms. Holt is a master at writing very sensual historical romance. Lady Caroline Foster finds herself jilted by the man she’d been promised to her entire life. Her parents want the scandal to die down and therefore quickly arrange to have her married to a man old enough to be her grandfather. There’s much more to the scheme than meets the eye and a mother’s twisted desire to get revenge for a long ago betrayal.

Ian Clayton has always desired Caroline, who was previously engaged to his half brother. But she’d always acted as if she was so much better than him. When she arrives at his house and barges into his bedroom, demanding a moment of his time, he’s very surprised to find the usual placid, demure woman making such a scene and demanding to get her way.

Caroline Foster seems helpless to stop her marriage to a man she doesn’t love, but before she’s wed she wants to taste passion. She’s shared one kiss with Ian in the past and she wants to experience it again. And while Ian also remembers the kiss he resists her advances in order to protect her name, but he can only resist her for so long.

While Ian and Caroline spend more and more time together, there are others who are scheming behind the scenes. Caroline’s mother is working overtime to get revenge, and unfortunately hurting Caroline is part of her plan. Ian’s mistress unwittingly hurts Caroline when she does what she must to keep her man. And her father wants absolutely nothing to do with her and refuses to help her.

Ian’s half brother Jack is a delightful character and his interaction with Rebecca makes this already delicious book that much more fun to read. Ms. Holt once again delivers a passionate story filled with villainous characters and two people who try to find a way to love and live their lives together.
