Abbie DiAngelo is the hot new chef in Princeton, New Jersey. She has a nine-year-old son, Ben, whom she has been raising alone since her divorce. With the rise in popularity of her restaurant, Campagne, Abbie is on top of the world.
That is, until her stepbrother, Ian MacGregor shows up and tells her that if she doesnít give him $100,000, he will go to the police and tell them that he has a confession from a death row inmate stating that her mother, Irene, hired him to kill her husband 28 years ago. When Abbie can only come up with part of the money, Ian agrees to take it. What Abbie doesnít know is that Ian is also being sought by an old acquaintance, Arturo Garcia, against whom Ian turned states evidence on drug charges and also stole $30,000. Arturo wants his money back and he also wants Ian dead.
When Ian doesnít show up for the rendezvous and Abbie is attacked in the parking lot by Arturo, she gets scared and decides not to tell anyone else what happened, that is until Detective John Ryan shows up and starts to ask questions.
Deadly Intent is more suspense than romance. With a secondary story of a child molester and killer on the loose, this book is by turns heart wrenching and every motherís nightmare. I unfortunately didnít feel any chemistry between John and Abbie. Because of the subject matter of this story, I could understand, but I did not find the ending and the supposed happily ever after very believable. I found myself with tears in my eyes in a few places. I could definitely identify with Abbie, being the mother of an eight year-old boy myself. If you like suspense, this is a good story.
