This fall author Cathie Linz takes us to Rock Creek the town next to Serenity Falls where her previous novels were set. By expanding to the neighboring town Ms. Linz is able to provide her readers with new quirky characters whose friendships with residents of Serenity Falls are totally believable as the two towns do share some of the same shops, and services.

When Leena Riley was a little girl she dreamt of being a famous model some day. As Leena grew to be bigger she realized that she wasn’t the image that most people think of when they think of high fashion models. She didn’t let that stop her, as she discovered there was a need for plus size models…she determined that she would make a name for herself, and never have to step foot in Rock Creek again.

However, as often happens Leena’s plan hit a brick wall, and she was forced to make some choices that she didn’t think she’d like. Determined not to let the derailment of her dreams keep her down for long Leena arrives back in Rock Creek, and begins the process of putting her life back on the fast track she yearns for.

What Leena doesn’t expect is the town vet Cole Flannigan. When the two were younger Leena punched Cole out for some derisive remarks he made regarding her size. No one in town has ever forgotten this unfortunate event. Now that the two have grown and matured what sort of sparks will fly?

Ms. Linz creates characters who are unique, but that you continually look forward to reading about to see how love comes into their lives, and whether it will totally upset their already strange personalities, or whether it will tame them enough to consider them “respectable”.

I enjoyed reading Big Girls Don’t Cry and learning about the residents of Rock Creek. I can’t wait to find out when I’m going to get another invitation into the lives of the residents of Rock Creek, and whose life I’ll get a more intimate picture of.

If you’re at all like me, and love romantic comedy, then Big Girls Don’t Cry by Cathie Linz is not to be missed.
