This fall readers of Debbie Macomber’s popular Cedar Cove series will be delighted to be welcomed back to this close knit community with the newest title 74 Seaside Avenue.

The primary focus of 74 Seaside Avenue is Teri and Bobby Polgar. Bobby, a famous chess player is still sitting out of tournaments because of a threat to his beloved wife Teri. Teri knows that there’s a serious reason that Bobby isn’t playing, but she can’t quite put her finger on it.

Bobby, in his desire to protect Teri, tries to force her into a very sheltered world, but Teri soon goes stir crazy and a compromise is reached. James, Bobby’s driver, will accompany her to and from her job.

It doesn’t take long for the danger to Teri to escalate, and a botched kidnapping attempt that injures James and scares Teri’s friend Rachel into changing the path of her life, makes Bobby realize that the only way to stop the threats to his family is to play one very important chess match.

The outcome of the match is no surprise, but the ending was very exciting.

As always Ms. Macomber finds a way to wind several story threads together. We get to be reunited with our favorite residents and see what current issues they’re struggling with. However, she does this without taking the focus away from Terri and Bobby.

74 Seaside Avenue makes one wish that Ms. Macomber had a magic way of writing, so that another year wouldn’t have to pass to find out what happens in the next installment.
