The shadows of her past plague Jane Heatherington with each step she takes. The present offers little relief and judging from the recent news from her father, the future holds little promise. Janeís father hasnít been making the payments on the large amount of debt he owes. As a result, they will lose everything. To make it worse, her father blames Jane. When the day of reckoning comes, it will be Jane who will pay.

Aidan Warrick leads Jane to believe he is a charitable man when he assists her to her fatherís inn. That belief is short-lived, however, once he reveals himself to be the owner of their debts. He is the devil come to collect his due. The Heatheringtons, unable to pay Aidan, are faced with an alternative. Aidan will agree to waive the debt if Jane will come with him as his indentured servant, effective immediately. Her father will never be allowed to see her during her stay at Trevisham, Aidanís home. Jane is quickly handed over to Aidan much to her horror. She leaves her home behind not knowing what to expect from there on out.

Mystery surrounds Trevisham and its handsome lord. Aidan is a paradox. He speaks of vengeance, after all she is an instrument in his orchestrated reprisal, and yet in dealing with Jane he is considerate. He shows her gentleness and even saves her during an attack by ruffians. Aidan garners both fear and respect among those who know him. Jane wants to know him as well. She wants to know where he disappears to and is he involved with the wreckers, or is smuggling his game? There is danger in her search for answers. When the quest takes her back to her own front door, Aidan is not there to pull her back from harmís way. Is it too late to share a future with the man who has stolen her heart?

Dark Prince by Eve Silver is at once dark and romantic. Aidan is the tormented hero women dream about and Jane is a likeable heroine with whom the reader can sympathize. The story is seamless, told with vivid imagery and page-turning action. Ms. Silver never fails to engage her readers. If you enjoy a well-written gothic romance be sure to buy Dark Prince and prepare to be enthralled.
