Spring is the time of birth. The flowers are sprouting, the leaves are budding, and the farms are busy with baby animals being born. What better time of the year for Becky Brandon, the female protagonist from Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series to have her own birth?

It doesn’t take Becky long to discover that there is a new doctor in town. One who is reported to have celebrity patients and to give fabulous parties for her patients. Becky decides that in her usual manner she must have Venetia Carter, nothing will stop her.

Luck seems to be on her side, and she gets one of the coveted positions with Venetia as she prefers to be called. It soon becomes apparent that the fabulous doctor is not quite all she appears to be. The worst part...she’s one of Luke’s ex-girlfriends, and soon jealousy becomes an issue.

As Becky is preparing for the birth of a child, her husband Luke is preparing for his own type of birth. His company Brandon C is poised to become a major player in the Public Relations field. As he expands further into Europe he discovers a complication that could destroy his future.

How Luke and Becky interact with one another makes for interesting reading. Both have secrets and the impact of those secrets could destroy their marriage, but seems to have just the opposite effect and brings them closer together.

Shopaholic and Baby is not true romance reading. It’s chick lit with a happy ending, and the birth of a beautiful child. It will be interesting to see how Becky and Luke mature into parenthood.
