Desiree Jacobs heads to New Mexico to investigate, when a museum that her company provides security for is robbed. Maxís family is involved in another disaster, when Maxís niece, Karen, who lives near the museum goes missing, abandoning her infant son at home. Desiree promises to help find the missing woman.
Her FBI agent boyfriend, Tony Lucano, is investigating a different case, one involving a trucking company. The owner of this trucking company, Ham Gordon seems to be adept at finding Desiree though, and telling her that the cases are somehow tied together Ė as well as their pasts and futures.
Sure enough, Tonyís organized crime case collides with Desiís investigation. Tony arrives in New Mexico to find Desi has gone missing. Will they find her in time? Or is this just the beginning of something dark and sinister?
Reluctant Runaway is the second book in the To Catch a Thief series, but it easily stands alone. I enjoyed reading Reluctant Runaway until the end when it got a little gross for me. But it ended well. Desi is a loveable heroine and Tony is a true hero, and the secondary characters supported the story line well.
The faith message is expertly woven in and is not preachy. I cheered Desi and Tony on as they tried to find the answers to the many questions the investigation rise, and I had to keep reading to find who the bad guy is and how the two cases were combined. My sixteen year old son was also engrossed in the book and we had to fight over who got to finish it first. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book as well as a preview to the next book in the series, Reluctant Smuggler, coming in October. Donít miss Reluctant Runaway. It is sure to keep your interest.
