Cyrus Sherwood was a professor of archaeology. After his death for 15 years, his daughter, Jillian, also an archaeologist, found some notes (in codes) about his father's search on a lost Amazon city and a red diamond called 'Empress'. In order to clear his father's name as a crackpot archaeologist, Jillian went on to search for the lost city with her stepbrother, who made Jillian's life miserable.

Ben Lewis was employed as their river guide. He was over six feet tall, all muscles, and the best guide known in the area. Ben and Jillian didn't like each other at their first encounter but as it turned out, Ben was the only protector Jillian would have during the journey - and with Ben Lewis around, everything was an adventure!

Heart of Fire was the first contemporary romance written by Linda Howard. This is one of the stories of Ms. Howard that you won't want to miss. The story was full of fun, adventure, danger, and a lot more. There were steamy sex scenes between the hero and heroine; gun flights between good guys and bad guys; the mysteries of the lost city, etc. It was so well written that I felt like I were the one with Ben and Jillian when I read through the chapters! Heart of Fire is a highly recommended read
